Welcome to the Portland Otologic Clinic
State of the Art Treatment for Dizziness, Hearing Loss and Tinnitus

Our Goals & Philosophy
Leading the way to effective treatment of dizziness and hearing loss

The PORTLAND OTOLOGIC CLINIC specializes in bringing maximum quality care
and a state-of-the-art approach to three areas of particular emphasis:

  • Vertigo and Balance Disorders
  • Technologically Advanced Hearing Aid Services
  • Intractable Tinnitus (Recently added)

Vertigo and Balance Disorders

We are committed to keeping current with the latest methods of diagnosis and treatment of vestibular disorders, and making them available to our patients. Further, if the knowledge does not exist to manage a problem, we study the problem and seek a solution ourselves. If the necessary technology does not exist, we work toward developing new technology. If collaboration with others, anywhere in the world, is advantageous, we collaborate.

We use a "physiologic" approach to diagnosis and a definitive approach to treatment.  Thus, rather than attempting only symptomatic and palliative control, we seek the source of disturbed function and then definitively treat the source.

Instead of traditional methods that favor running a standard battery of tests, we select only those tests that are helpful in analyzing the problem. Also, we have developed some tests of our own to analyze critical factors.

In selecting the form of treatment, we begin with a conservative approach (least invasive, least risky). Only as a last resort will we recommend a more aggressive approach.

We recognize that vestibular problems can be extremely complex and challenging. In such cases, we continue to explore all possible avenues of treatment as long as there is any possibility of further resolution.

Technologically Advanced
Hearing Aid Services

For individuals with hearing loss that is not amenable to medical intervention, our goal is to improve their quality of life through modern technology.

First we conduct a thorough evaluation of the individual’s hearing loss, life style, rehabilitative needs and cosmetic preferences.

Based upon our analysis of the hearing loss, we recommend an individualized hearing program. This involves:

  • Selecting the most technologically advanced hearing aid system available to meet the patient’s needs. These are usually "digitally programmable".
  • In-the-ear programming of the hearing aids for optimal hearing and comfort.
  • Extensive counseling and follow up care, with ongoing reprogramming as needed.
  • An exclusive 60-day trial period.

We believe that a highly competent and understanding audiologist is as important to the process as the technology in the instrument.
