Welcome to the Portland Otologic Clinic
State of the Art Treatment for Dizziness, Hearing Loss and Tinnitus

Vestibular Disorders Support Group

All patients and their families are invited to attend our monthly support and education group. Clinic associate, Sarah Movius, LCSW facilitates the group, which meets on the second Thursday of each month at Providence Medical Center. Each meeting features a different topic, with information presented by the leader or guest speaker. But the most important thing about the group is the sharing of support, experiences and coping strategies between patients.

Sarah Movius, LCSW:

Sarah MoviusSarah has nearly twenty years of social work experience. A native of Portland, she graduated from Reed College with a BA in biology, and received her Masters Degree in Social Work from Portland State University. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has worked in the fields of gerontology, education and family therapy. In addition to facilitating the vestibular disorders support group, Sarah conducts vertigo intake interviews at the Portland Otologic Clinic and assists in coordinating vestibular consultation and testing appointments. She is available to our patients for ongoing support, information and referrals to help in dealing with their vestibular disorders. Sarah sees her role as supporting and assisting vestibular patients and their families with communication and coping strategies.

Support Group Update:

New information about Vestibular Disorder Support and Education Groups!

Vestibular Disorder Support and Education Groups, in association with
Portland Otologic Clinic, are starting at Providence Medical Center in
Portland. The groups meet on the second Thursday of each month, from 6:00
to 7:30 PM. Groups meet in room HCC6 of the main hospital building.

On February 9th we watched a movie produced by the Vestibular Disorders Association. It was called "Managing Your Symptoms" and had good advice from professionals in the field as well as dizzy patients.

On March 9th we discussed "Diet and Exercise for Dizzy Patients". How can eating right and staying active work for people with vertigo or imbalance?

April 13th = Grief and Loss Around Chronic Illness. When we have a long-term illness we feel a real sense of loss. We may even grieve for the times when we felt well.

On May 11th Guest speaker will be Jane Biggi, PT. Jane will talk about physical therapy and how it can help people with imbalance and dizziness.
